If you’ve visited the Aspirus St. Luke’s Birthing Center recently, you’ll have noticed we’re in the middle of remodeling the entire floor, from the secure entrance to every birthing suite. Here are the five biggest changes you can expect in the coming months.
1. Birthing rooms to birthing suites.
We’re converting patient rooms into full birthing suites. This means that every birthing suite will have private bathrooms and a newborn sink for baby’s first bath. More privacy so moms feel more at ease. Most rooms will include a deep tub for laboring moms, and several suites will have spa like walk-in showers for those moms who have a cesarean section.
2. Your home away from home.
Families often want to bring items that make them feel at home. The suites have plenty of open storage space for bags, jackets and anything else that needs a spot. Plus, every suite will include a mini fridge to store snacks or leftovers from your favorite takeout meal. The suite updates make it easy to customize your space and get comfortable.
3. Ambience.
A comfortable, calm environment is good for both mom and baby. Aspirus St. Luke’s offers aromatherapy as a natural option for symptom relief. Essential oils can be applied with a lotion or diffused in the room. Lighting can also be dimmed in the new suites, so you can control brightness. You can also bring in music you want playing during labor.
4. Choices, choices, choices.
At Aspirus St. Luke’s, we do everything we can so you can deliver your way. That includes offering wireless remote telemetry for monitoring baby during labor. We want to make sure moms can walk around, labor in a tub, in bed or on a birthing ball.
We also offer nitrous oxide as a low-intervention method of pain management. It’s one of the many choices you can make as you complete your Aspirus St. Luke’s Birth Plan.
5. Calming interiors.
Factoring in color psychology, the remodeled birthing center uses calming colors, including blue and neutrals, along with timeless touches such as subway and glass mosaic tile throughout the space. All of the art hanging in the rooms and hallways is from local artists. The furnishings reflect contemporary interior design that feels both comfortable and spa-like at the same time.
